About
Virgin Islands National Park Overnight Moorings offer boat-based access to some of the most beautiful waters in the Caribbean, located on the north and south shores surrounding the island of St. John. The mooring system is designed to protect marine life on the ocean seabed while providing safe and convenient anchoring points for visiting boaters. All moorings operate on a strict first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Boaters must physically arrive at a mooring to claim and purchase their spot using the Recreation.gov mobile app by scanning QR codes at self-pay floating paystations throughout the park. Cellular service can be limited in remote areas, so downloading the app before arrival is essential. Once payment is made on-site, no refunds or modifications are available. The moorings provide excellent access to popular park destinations including Honeymoon Bay, Trunk Bay, and Cinnamon Bay, where visitors can enjoy world-class snorkeling, beach activities, and concessions for food and equipment rentals. The mooring system protects the delicate marine ecosystem while allowing boaters to experience the crystal-clear waters and vibrant coral reefs that make Virgin Islands National Park a premier destination.
