Virgin Island National Park Overnight Mooring

About

Virgin Islands National Park Overnight Moorings offer boaters the opportunity to spend the night in some of the most beautiful waters in the Caribbean. Located on both the north and south shores of St. John, the mooring system protects the delicate marine ecosystem by preventing anchor damage to the ocean seabed while providing safe and convenient access for visiting vessels. The park offers different mooring types based on vessel size: white with blue stripes for vessels up to 60 feet, and white with red stripes ("Big Boat") for vessels 61-100 feet in length. Additional specialized moorings exist for snorkeling/SCUBA use, permitted fishing, and commercial vessels. Dinghy tethers are available at Trunk Bay and Waterlemon Cay for boats 16 feet and under. Nearby bays offer concessions for food and drinks, as well as snorkel gear and paddleboard rentals at Honeymoon, Trunk Bay, and Cinnamon Bay. Boaters must observe a 5 mph speed limit in mooring fields, and anchoring is prohibited. Stays are limited to 7 consecutive nights per bay and no more than 30 nights per calendar year.

Directions

Moorings are accessible by boat only around St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Pay stations are located at Cruz Bay Finger Pier, Caneel Bay Watersports Shop, Hawksnest Bay, Maho Bay Camp, Leinster Bay, Saltpond Bay, and Great Lameshur Bay.
