About

Oleta River State Park encompasses over 1,000 acres on Biscayne Bay, making it Florida's largest urban park despite being just 30 minutes from downtown Miami. The park offers 14 rustic air-conditioned cabins for overnight guests, though these do not include kitchens or private bathrooms. A centrally located bathhouse provides hot showers and restroom facilities. Traditional tent camping is not permitted for individual campers; however, a primitive youth campground is available exclusively for organized groups such as scouts, schools, and youth camps. The park is renowned for its 15 miles of off-road mountain biking trails, considered some of the best wilderness bike trails in the region. Paddlers can explore the Oleta River and surrounding mangrove forests by kayak, canoe, or paddleboard, with rentals available through the park concessionaire. The park also features a beach on Biscayne Bay, fishing opportunities, picnic areas, and wildlife viewing. Visitors may spot great blue herons, roseate spoonbills, dolphins, and manatees. The park serves as a stop on the 1,515-mile Florida Circumnavigational Saltwater Paddling Trail.

Directions

From I-95 (either North or South) take State Road 826 (Palmetto Expressway) east for four miles to the park entrance. The park entrance is located on the south side of the road, approximately 1 mile after crossing US 1. From the terminus of the Florida Turnpike in Miami, follow signs for 826 East/Beaches.
