Air Quality Alert issued August 9 at 11:22AM PDT by NWS Portland OR
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has continued an Air Quality Advisory, which is IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON PDT MONDAY. An Air Quality Advisory for Smoke and Ozone remains in effect. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels due to smoke and ozone at times through 12PM Monday. Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes, runny nose, aggravate heart and lung diseases, and aggravate other serious health problems. Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or lung condition. This Order prohibits 1) possessing, storing, or transporting any aquatic invasive animal species AND 2) prohibits possessing, storing, or transporting any aquatic or riparian invasive plant species - on National Forest System lands in the Pacific Northwest Region as specified in the Order.
About
Kinnikinnick Campground is a scenic walk-in campground situated on the southern edge of Laurance Lake in the Mount Hood National Forest, just outside Parkdale, Oregon. The campground offers 26 sites split between tent-only (19 sites) and standard nonelectric sites (7 sites), all requiring a short walk from the parking area. The setting provides excellent lake views and frequent wildlife sightings, including bald eagles, surrounded by distinctive rock and hill formations. The campground operates seasonally from mid-May through early October. Amenities include vault toilets, picnic tables, and campfire rings at each site. There is no potable water available, so campers must bring their own supply. A boat ramp at the adjacent day use area provides access to Laurance Lake, which permits all non-motorized watercraft including kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards. Access to the campground requires a high-clearance vehicle. The road to Laurance Lake is very rough, and the Eliot Creek crossing is approximately 12 feet wide and prone to washouts from glacial melt. Trailers are not recommended. The campground accepts reservations through Recreation.gov but also maintains first-come, first-served availability.
Directions
From Parkdale, OR travel south on Clear Creek Road for 2.8 miles. Take a slight right onto Laurance Lake Road/Forest Road 2840 and follow for approximately 4 miles. High-clearance vehicle required.
