About
Vedauwoo Campground occupies one of Wyoming's most distinctive landscapes, where 10 square miles of weathered Sherman granite create an otherworldly maze of boulders, slabs, and towering rock formations. The campground consists of two loops containing 28 standard sites designed to blend with the natural surroundings, plus a separate tent-only campground with 20 additional sites near the Box Canyon and Turtle Rock trailheads. The vegetation includes Limber pine, Engelmann spruce, Douglas fir, and aspen.
The rock formations attract climbers of all skill levels, while the Turtle Rock Trail winds from the campground through meadows, streams, beaver ponds, and forested areas between multiple rock formations. Box Canyon Trail, departing from the nearby picnic area, offers an accessible option with scenic views along a short distance. The area carries historical significance as a former outlaw hideout, and Native American legend attributes the boulder piles to playful spirits.
Sites accommodate up to 8 people and 2 vehicles, though smaller sites may only fit one vehicle. Maximum trailer length is 32 feet. Check-in is after 2:00 PM with checkout at 1:00 PM, and stays are limited to 14 consecutive nights. The campground operates with a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served sites.
