About

Pole Creek Group Campground is a walk-in dispersed campground situated in the scenic Pole Mountain area of Medicine Bow National Forest, just east of Laramie, Wyoming. This rustic campground serves as a gateway to the popular Happy Jack Recreation Area trail system, which offers excellent mountain biking, hiking, and fishing opportunities throughout the warmer months and transforms into cross-country skiing terrain in winter. The campground maintains a primitive character with much of its infrastructure overgrown, appealing to groups seeking a backcountry experience close to town. Sites feature picnic tables and basic restroom facilities. The area is accessible via Forest Road 719 off Happy Jack Road, with the campground located a short walk from the parking area. The Pole Mountain area's relatively low elevation and proximity to I-80 make it one of the more accessible camping options in the Medicine Bow National Forest, though winter weather and snow can impact accessibility and services seasonally.
