About
Upper Lehman Creek Campground occupies a diverse forest setting at 7,500 feet in Great Basin National Park's Snake Range. Sites are distributed among pinyon and ponderosa pine, juniper, white fir, aspen, and fragrant mountain mahogany, with Upper Lehman Creek tumbling through the grounds. Brook trout inhabit the creek, though fishing access is challenging due to dense brush. The campground serves as a base for exploring Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive, which climbs to nearly 10,000 feet and provides access to ancient bristlecone pines, Stella and Teresa Lakes, and the Wheeler Peak Summit Trail. Lehman Caves is a 10-minute drive away. The park's exceptionally dark skies draw stargazers, with ranger-led astronomy programs held at Lehman Caves Visitor Center during summer. The lower loop (sites 1-19) accommodates RVs and trailers up to 40 feet, while the upper loop (sites 20-24) is tent-only. Two ADA-accessible sites are available. The campground has vault toilets and trash collection but no potable water; fill up at the visitor center. Reservations are required during the operating season and can be made through Recreation.gov.
Directions
From US Highway 6/50, turn south on Nevada State Highway 487 and travel 5 miles to Baker. In Baker, turn west on Highway 488 and travel 5 miles to the park. The campground is 3.5 miles up Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive from Lehman Caves Visitor Center.
