About

Snake Creek Primitive Campgrounds provides a rugged, secluded camping experience on the less-traveled southeastern side of Great Basin National Park. The 12 designated campsites are scattered along the Snake Creek Road corridor, each offering a distinct setting among aspen groves with dramatic limestone cliff backdrops. Named sites include Monkey Rock, Squirrel Springs, Pinnacles, and Eagle Peak, while additional walk-in sites near Shoshone and Johnson Lake trails offer access to backcountry hiking. All sites are free and first-come, first-served with no advance reservations. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Vault toilets and seasonal trash collection are available. Each site accommodates up to 8 people, 3 tents, and 2 vehicles. Tents must be pitched within 30 feet of the site's picnic table or fire ring. Generator use is permitted from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Snake Creek Road is an unpaved, rough dirt road that closes seasonally due to snow. RVs and trailers are never recommended due to road conditions. High-clearance vehicles are advised. The maximum continuous stay is 14 days.
