The campground accommodates groups of up to 120 people and can connect with Lower Fir Group for parties needing additional capacity. The site features a covered pavilion, 12 picnic tables, two fire rings, vault toilets, and one of the few potable water hydrants among group sites in the area. Trash service is provided. An open meadow adjacent to the campground is perfect for activities like ultimate frisbee or horseshoes. The high-elevation setting offers a mixture of pine, fir, aspen, and oak trees with scenic overlooks spanning the Tularosa Basin desert valley. The Rim Trail is a short distance away, offering hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding opportunities. White Sands National Monument is accessible for day trips to the west.
