Upper Fir Group Area sits at 9,000 feet elevation in the Sacramento Mountains of Lincoln National Forest, approximately one mile from Cloudcroft. The high-elevation setting features a mix of pine, fir, aspen, and oak trees, with mountain meadows full of wildflowers during the warmer months. White Sands National Park lies about an hour west for day trips. This reservation-only group site accommodates up to 120 campers and includes a covered pavilion, 12 picnic tables, two fire rings, vault toilets, potable water from a drinking hydrant, and trash receptacles. RVs are limited to 30 feet. For larger gatherings, the adjacent Lower Fir Group Area can accommodate an additional 70 people. Campers must call the Sacramento Ranger District at 575-682-1518 before arrival to obtain the gate lock combination. Check-in is after 2 PM and check-out is by noon.
Directions
From Cloudcroft, travel east on US 82 and turn left onto NM 244. Less than 1 mile ahead on the right is the entrance to Upper and Lower Fir Campgrounds, across from Pines Campground. Upper Fir is at the end of Forest Road 422.
