About

Lower Fir Group Area is a high-energy and highly popular group campground set away from public roads in the Sacramento Mountain area of Lincoln National Forest. The secluded location ensures minimal outside noise, leaving only the sounds of rustling aspen leaves. The site can accommodate groups of up to 70 visitors and features a covered pavilion, 8 picnic tables, 2 fire rings, vault toilets, a potable water faucet, garbage depositories, and paved parking. An open meadow provides space for activities like volleyball or horseshoes. Lincoln National Forest spans 1.1 million acres of undisturbed landscape, offering ample opportunities for day hikes and wildlife observation. Visitors may spot elk, deer, various bird species, and occasionally black bear. White Sands National Monument, the world's largest dune field of pure white gypsum sand, is a popular day trip destination to the west. The campground requires advance reservations through Recreation.gov and campers must call ahead to obtain the lock combination for site access. Check-in is after 2:00 PM and check-out is by noon.
