About

Upper Basin Camp is a primitive campground managed by the U.S. Forest Service within the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests in Clearwater County, Idaho. Located in the remote backcountry of north-central Idaho, this site provides a rustic camping experience far from developed amenities. The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests encompass approximately 4 million acres of diverse terrain including steep river canyons, high mountain meadows, and dense conifer forests. High-elevation campgrounds in this region typically operate seasonally, with access limited by snow and road conditions from late fall through spring. Forest roads in the North Fork Clearwater area, including Forest Road 250, have experienced significant slide damage that may affect access. Campers should come prepared for primitive conditions with limited or no developed facilities. The area offers opportunities for dispersed recreation including fishing for westslope cutthroat trout and bull trout in nearby streams.

Directions

From Moscow, Idaho, travel northeast on State Road 8 to Elk River. Turn north onto Forest Road 382 and then east onto Forest Road 1705. The campground is about 45 minutes from Moscow.
