Upper Basin Camp is a Forest Service campground situated in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests in Clearwater County, Idaho. The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests cover over 4 million acres of diverse landscape in north-central Idaho, featuring rugged canyons, dense cedar forests, pristine rivers, and mountainous terrain. This campground provides access to the remote backcountry of the Clearwater region. The surrounding forests are part of one of the largest contiguous roadless areas in the lower 48 states and offer opportunities for solitude, wildlife viewing, and exploring Idaho's wilderness heritage. The area is the traditional homeland of the Nez Perce people and holds significant cultural and historical importance. Due to its location and elevation, Upper Basin Camp experiences seasonal closures during winter months when snow makes access difficult or impossible. The campground typically operates during summer and early fall when forest roads are passable and weather conditions are favorable for camping.

Directions

From Moscow, Idaho, travel northeast on State Road 8 to Elk River. Turn north onto Forest Road 382 and then east onto Forest Road 1705. The campground is about 45 minutes from Moscow.
