Elk Creek Campground

About

Elk Creek Campground offers a comfortable base camp in north-central Idaho's mountains. Located at 3,000 feet elevation in a mature pine forest along Elk Creek, the campground provides 24 sites with electric hookups, making it suitable for both tent campers and RVs up to 40 feet. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with grill. Vault toilets are available on-site, though water availability may be limited late in the season. The surrounding area is home to remarkable natural features including Idaho's tallest waterfall, accessible via the 3.5-mile Elk Creek Falls Trail, and the largest cedar tree east of the Cascade Range. Elk Creek and nearby Elk River Reservoir offer fishing for cutthroat and rainbow trout, chinook salmon, and steelhead. The rugged landscape supports elk, deer, moose, bear, and cougar. The town of Elk River, less than a mile away, provides basic services including gas, groceries, showers, and fishing supplies. Six sites are reservable through Recreation.gov up to four days in advance; remaining sites are first-come, first-served.

Directions

From Moscow, Idaho, travel northeast on State Road 8 to Elk River. Turn north onto Forest Road 382 and then east onto Forest Road 1705. The campground is about 45 minutes from Moscow.
