About
Located in the Clearwater National Forest at 3,000 feet elevation, Elk Creek Campground offers 24 sites in a mature pine forest setting next to Elk Creek. All sites include electric hookups, picnic tables, and campfire rings with grills. Six sites are reservable up to four days in advance through Recreation.gov, while the remaining sites operate first-come, first-served. An overflow area provides additional rustic sites. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the area's natural attractions. The Elk Creek Falls Trail leads 3.5 miles to Idaho's tallest waterfall, and the region is home to the largest cedar tree east of the Cascade Range. Elk Creek and nearby Elk River Reservoir offer fishing for cutthroat and rainbow trout, chinook salmon, and steelhead. The area features numerous trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The town of Elk River is less than a mile away and provides basic services including gas, groceries, showers, and fishing equipment. Wildlife including elk, deer, moose, bear, and cougar inhabit the forested landscape. Bears are common, so approved food storage containers are required.
Directions
From Moscow, Idaho, travel northeast on State Road 8 to Elk River. Turn north onto Forest Road 382 and then east onto Forest Road 1705. The campground is about 45 minutes from Moscow.
