About
Emerald Creek Campground sits along Emerald Creek in the Idaho Panhandle National Forests, approximately 25 miles south of St. Maries. This primitive campground provides 18 individual sites available on a first-come, first-served basis, making it a convenient basecamp for visitors to the adjacent Emerald Creek Garnet Area. The Emerald Creek Garnet Area is world-renowned as one of only two locations on Earth where gem-quality star garnets can be found. For a small fee, visitors can dig for these unique four and six-rayed star garnets. The campground also offers fishing access along Emerald Creek and serves as a starting point for OHV riding in the surrounding area. Facilities are basic, with vault toilets located a short distance from the campground and drinking water available from a hand pump. Campers should come prepared with bug repellent as mosquitoes are prolific throughout the season. Sites accommodate tents and smaller RVs, with fees of $10 per night including two vehicles per site.
Directions
Drive 25 miles south of St. Maries on State Highway 3, then turn right on Road #447 and travel approximately 6 miles to the campground.
