About

Emerald Creek Campground is nestled in the Idaho Panhandle National Forests, about 25 miles south of St. Maries. The campground features 18 campsites and serves as a convenient base for visitors exploring the nearby Emerald Creek Garnet Area, one of the few locations in the world where gem-quality star garnets can be found. For a small fee, visitors can dig for these unique gemstones. The campground provides basic amenities including hand-pumped drinking water and vault toilets located a short distance from the campsites. Each site accommodates up to two vehicles, with an additional vehicle option available for a fee. The area is known for prolific mosquito populations throughout the season, so visitors should come prepared with insect repellent. Access to the campground is via State Highway 3 and Forest Road 447. Sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis or through reservation. The overnight fee is $10 per night for a single site, with Interagency Senior and Access pass holders receiving a 50% discount.
