About

Union Grove State Park sits on 262 acres in Tama County, centered around a 26-acre lake created in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The modern campground offers full hookup sites with electric (20/30/50 amp), water, and sewer connections, plus modern restrooms and showers. Two buddy sites accommodate larger groups. The campground operates April 1 through October 31 and requires advance reservations through the Iowa State Parks system. The lake supports a warm-water fishery with crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, largemouth bass, and walleye. Two boat ramps provide access for no-wake boating, and an unsupervised swimming beach offers summer recreation. Three miles of trails wind through woodlands, prairies, and wetlands, providing opportunities for hiking and birdwatching. Two modern ADA-accessible family cabins are available year-round for those preferring shelter camping. Open picnic shelters and shaded picnic areas near the lake can be reserved through the state parks reservation system.
