George Wyth State Park
Open for the 2026 camping season. Peak season runs May 1 through October 15. The campground is 100% reservable; no first-come, first-served sites. Note: Beach concessions, equipment rentals, and firewood sales are not available for summer 2026.
About
George Wyth State Park occupies a unique position as an urban oasis between Waterloo and Cedar Falls. The 74-site campground accommodates a range of camping styles: 47 electric sites with 20/30/50 amp hookups, 13 non-electric sites, 6 tent-only sites, 3 walk-to sites, and a youth group site. All campsites feature picnic tables and fire rings. Modern restrooms with showers and a dump station provide convenient facilities. Water hydrants are distributed throughout the campground. The park centers around four lakes: Brinker Lake (180 acres), George Wyth Lake (75 acres), Fisher Lake (40 acres), and Alice Wyth Lake (60 acres). Fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and canoeing are popular activities. The Cedar Valley Trail, a paved regional trail system, runs directly through the park, connecting campers to 80+ miles of trails. The campground includes 3.5 miles of paved trails and 10 miles of soft-surface trails within park boundaries. The campground requires reservations and is 100% reservable through the Iowa State Parks reservation system. Same-day bookings are accepted until 10 p.m. CST. The park is named after George B. Wyth, a prominent Cedar Falls businessman and early conservation advocate.
