About

Pine Lake State Park is a hidden gem nestled in Iowa's rolling farmland, featuring wooded trails, deep ravines, and scenic lake views. The campground offers 124 campsites with electric hookups (50 amp service), modern showers and restrooms, and a trailer dump station. Historic structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration in the 1930s, including the Pine Lodge, beach house, and stone cabins, have been carefully restored and add character to the park. The park provides access to fishing in Upper Pine Lake, Lower Pine Lake, and the Iowa River, with opportunities to catch bass, crappie, catfish, northern pike, and walleye. Only electric trolling motors are allowed on the lakes. A variety of trails wind through wetland areas, along the bluffs of the Iowa River, and through unique forest ecosystems. A 2.5-mile paved trail connects the lake to nearby Eldora. Amenities include a swimming beach, boat ramps and docks, fishing jetties, fish cleaning station, playground, and day-use lodge. The campground is 100% reservable through the Iowa State Parks reservation system. The park also features four cozy cabins with stone fireplaces, full kitchens and baths, and heating and air conditioning for year-round stays.

Directions

From U.S. Highway 20, take the Eldora/Steamboat Rock exit and head south on County Road S-56. Continue through Steamboat Rock and proceed approximately two miles; the campground entrance is on the left through the stone portal.
