About
Rock Creek State Park sits on a 600-acre man-made lake in Jasper County, offering one of central Iowa's best combinations of camping, fishing, and boating. The campground provides 175 sites split between 100 electric and 69 non-electric spots, plus buddy sites for groups and youth group areas. Many sites border the lake or nestle into wooded pockets, and all campers have access to modern restroom and shower facilities, water hydrants, and a dump station. The lake supports year-round fishing for largemouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill, and crappie, with a fish cleaning station on site. All motor sizes are permitted but restricted to 5 mph, making it ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and leisurely pontoon cruising. The marina concession rents boats and paddlesports and sells bait and snacks. More than 8 miles of multi-use trails wind around the lake for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, though equestrian trails remain closed due to 2024 flood damage. A separate 5-mile paved trail on the east side connects to the town of Grinnell. ADA-accessible boat ramps and designated accessible campsites accommodate visitors with mobility needs.
