Tyler State Park

Open

The park is open year-round. The boat ramp, fishing pier, and swimming area are closed due to low lake level. Park improvement projects will cause temporary campsite closures through September 2026. The water/electric campground will be closed September 1, 2026 through January 1, 2027 for construction. Headquarters is closed every Tuesday and Wednesday; pay fees online or at the self-pay station.

About

Tyler State Park preserves a significant example of East Texas Pineywoods ecology, with dense forests of loblolly and shortleaf pine mixed with hardwoods surrounding a spring-fed lake. The Civilian Conservation Corps constructed much of the park's infrastructure during the 1930s, including the iconic Whispering Pines Nature Trail and numerous stone structures that remain in use today. The 64-acre lake serves as the park's centerpiece, offering fishing for bass, catfish, and crappie from a pier or rented boats. Camping options span the full spectrum from walk-in tent sites to premium lakefront RV pads. The Lakeview area provides 18 full-hookup sites with lake access at $32/night, while Big Pine offers 39 RV-only full-hookup sites at $28/night. Cedar Point has 12 water/electric sites with fire rings at $24/night. Budget-minded campers can choose from 30 water-only sites spread across Dogwood Ridge, Red Oak, Hickory Hollow, and Sumac Bend loops at $18/night. All sites include picnic tables and tent pads where tents are permitted. The park's 13+ miles of multi-use trails accommodate hikers and mountain bikers through varied terrain. The park store rents canoes, kayaks, paddleboats, SUPs, and johnboats for lake exploration. A tackle loaner program supports fishing, and no license is required for shore fishing within the park. The park frequently reaches capacity on weekends; advance reservations through Reserve America are strongly recommended.
