About
Pine City Campground is a small, rustic campground located on the eastern shore of Lake Mary in the Mammoth Lakes Basin, just 5 to 10 minutes from the town of Mammoth Lakes. At 8,900 feet elevation, this 10-site campground sits in a lodgepole pine forest across the road from Lake Mary, offering excellent views of the lake and the Mammoth Crest beyond. Named for one of Mammoth's original 19th-century mining camps, Pine City is one of the most sought-after campgrounds in the basin due to its lakeside location and ideal access to recreation. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring with grill, and bear-proof food locker. The campground provides flush toilets, potable water from a hand pump, and trash collection. Due to the active bear area, all food and scented items must be stored in the provided bear boxes, which measure 48" x 30" x 36". Dogs are permitted but must be leashed. The campground serves as an excellent base camp for exploring the Lakes Basin, with easy access to fishing on Lake Mary and numerous hiking trails. All sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The campground experiences heavy use during the summer season.
Directions
Take US 395 to State Highway 203. Head west through the town of Mammoth Lakes. Highway 203 becomes Main Street, then Lake Mary Road leading to the Lakes Basin. Past the first lake, take the second left. Pine City is the first campground on the left.
