About
Pine City Campground is a compact 10-site campground situated in the scenic Mammoth Lakes Basin of Inyo National Forest. Located directly across from Lake Mary, the largest and most developed of the basin's lakes, it offers convenient access to fishing, hiking, and the stunning granite peaks of the eastern Sierra Nevada. At 8,900 feet elevation, the campground provides a high-alpine camping experience just a 5-10 minute drive from the town of Mammoth Lakes. Each campsite includes a picnic table and bear-proof food storage locker, essential in this active bear area where all food and scented items must be properly stored. The campground features flush toilets and potable water available from a hand pump. Sites are first-come, first-served with no advance reservations accepted. Quiet hours are observed from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The Lakes Basin offers excellent trout fishing, multiple hiking trails, and access to the John Muir Wilderness. Due to the high elevation, the campground operates seasonally, typically opening in late May or June depending on snowpack conditions.
Directions
From US 395, take State Highway 203 west to and through Mammoth Lakes. Highway 203 becomes Main Street, then Lake Mary Road, which leads to the Lakes Basin. Past the first lake, take the second left. Pine City is the first campground on the left.
