Trough Creek State Park
Open — Closed for the season. The campground typically operates from mid-April through mid-December.
Special Weather Statement issued April 12 at 4:55AM EDT by NWS State College PA
The combination of drying fine fuels and leaf litter, low relative humidity of around 35 percent and a southerly wind gusting between 20 and 25 mph during the late morning and afternoon hours, will create an elevated risk of wildfire spread across the southern half of Pennsylvania today. Residents are urged to exercise caution if handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery, cigarettes, or matches. If dry grasses and tree litter begin to burn, the fire will have the potential to spread rapidly. For more information about wildfire danger and wildfire prevention and education, please visit the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources website at http://dcnr.pa.gov/Communities/Wildfire.
About
Trough Creek State Park campground is a peaceful 29-site camping area located within a scenic gorge formed by Great Trough Creek as it cuts through Terrace Mountain before emptying into Raystown Lake. The campground accommodates any size camper and provides electric hookups at all sites, making it suitable for both tent campers and RVs. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring, and most sites feature a separate crushed stone tent pad for additional convenience. The campground offers a rustic camping experience with non-flush restroom facilities and no shower facilities on-site. A sanitary dump station is conveniently located next to the park office. The 541-acre park is surrounded by Rothrock State Forest and the Raystown Lake Recreation Area, creating a large contiguous area of public land for recreation. Pets are permitted at designated campsites, allowing families to bring their four-legged companions. Rugged hiking trails within the park lead to natural wonders including the iconic Balanced Rock and Rainbow Falls. The forested setting provides a quiet, intimate camping atmosphere perfect for those seeking a getaway in nature. Reservations can be made through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system.
