Trine State Recreation Area

Open year-round for cabin rentals. Reservations required at least 2 days in advance through Indiana State Parks ReserveAmerica system. No walk-in registrations. No tent or RV camping allowed.

About

Trine State Recreation Area encompasses nearly 200 acres of rolling, wooded hills, open meadows, unique wetlands, and Gentian Lake, a 23-acre kettle lake formed by glacial activity. Located adjacent to Pokagon State Park in Steuben County, this facility resulted from a 2007 donation by philanthropists Ralph and Sheri Trine and operates as a managed unit of Pokagon. The recreation area offers 12 cabins for overnight rental, ranging from intimate 2-person lakeside cabins to larger 6-person accommodations. Cabin names reflect the area's birdlife: Snipe, Redwing, Killdeer, Kingfisher, Blue Heron, Green Heron, Woodcock, Sandpiper, Flicker, Towhee, Tanager, and Cardinal. Two cabins (Flicker and Towhee) are pet-friendly; pets are prohibited in all others. Day-use facilities include the Swenson Lodge conference center, a public fishing pier with ADA accessibility, paddleboat and electric fishing boat rentals, and the Rolling Oaks Multipurpose Trail. Traditional tent and RV camping is not permitted at Trine; visitors seeking campground-style camping should use Pokagon State Park's facilities instead.
