About
Trap Creek Campground is nestled in a beautiful valley at the foot of the Sawtooth Mountain Range in central Idaho's Sawtooth National Recreation Area. At 6,670 feet elevation, the campground enjoys cool summer temperatures averaging 78°F highs and 40°F lows. A mixed stand of pines provides partial shade while Trap Creek flows nearby and summer wildflowers carpet the surrounding meadows. Expansive Elk Meadow is close by, offering excellent opportunities for bird and wildlife watching. The campground consists of one group site made up of three smaller individual sites, with a maximum capacity of 40 people. When the group site is not reserved, the individual sites become available on a first-come, first-served basis. The road to the site and parking spurs are paved. Vault toilets and potable water are provided. Recreation options abound with approximately 750 miles of trails crisscrossing the valley and surrounding mountains, including the Idaho Centennial Trail which passes directly through the site. Numerous lakes and streams including the Salmon River offer rainbow and native Westslope cutthroat trout fishing. Stanley Lake and Redfish Lake are nearby for boating, waterskiing, canoeing, and kayaking.
