Banner Creek Campground is a small, rustic campground located along Idaho Highway 21 in the Salmon-Challis National Forest, between Stanley and Boise. The campground sits in a forested setting with Banner Creek flowing through the area, providing a quiet stopover for travelers along this scenic byway. With only 5 campsites, this intimate campground offers a peaceful experience for those seeking a simple camping setup.
Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring with a cooking grill. The campground provides vault toilet facilities, but campers must bring their own water as no potable water is available on-site. The campground can accommodate trailers and motorhomes up to 32 feet in length, though there are no electric, water, or sewer hookups. This is a first-come, first-served campground with no reservation system.
The campground operates seasonally, typically from mid-June through early fall, as Highway 21 in this area is subject to winter closures due to snow and avalanche danger near Banner Summit. The area serves as a trailhead access point for Knapp-Loon Creek Trail in the Cape Horn area and provides convenient access to the scenic byway corridor. Senior and Access pass holders receive a 50% discount on the nightly camping fee.
