About

Sheep Trail Campground is nestled at 6,670 feet in a beautiful valley at the foot of the Sawtooth Mountain Range in central Idaho's Sawtooth National Recreation Area. The small campground features one group site consisting of four individual sites that can collectively accommodate up to 40 people. A mixed stand of pines provides partial shade, and summer wildflowers are plentiful throughout the area. A small creek runs alongside the campground. The Idaho Centennial Trail passes through the campground heading north and south, providing direct access to an estimated 750 miles of trails crisscrossing the valley and surrounding mountains. Numerous sparkling lakes and streams dot the area, including the Salmon River, offering excellent rainbow and native Westslope cutthroat trout fishing. Stanley Lake and Redfish Lake are nearby for boating, waterskiing, canoeing, and kayaking. When the group site is not reserved, the individual sites become available on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground has vault toilets, potable water, and picnic tables. Horses and pack animals are permitted. Occupancy is limited to 10 days within any 30-day period within a 30-mile radius of the SNRA.

Directions

From Stanley, take State Highway 21 northwest for approximately 9-10 miles. Turn south between mileposts 121 and 122 onto Forest Road 613 to reach Sheep Trail Campground.
