About
Located in a beautiful valley at 6,670 feet elevation in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, Sheep Trail Campground offers a peaceful mountain retreat at the foot of the Sawtooth Range. The campground features one group site that can be divided into four smaller sites, accommodating up to 40 people total. When the group site is not reserved, individual sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground is surrounded by a mixed stand of pines providing partial shade, with abundant summer wildflowers and a small creek running adjacent to the property. Temperatures are cool, with average summer highs of 78 degrees and lows of 40 degrees. The Idaho Centennial Trail passes directly through the campground, offering immediate access to an estimated 750 miles of trails crisscrossing the valley and surrounding mountains. Expansive Elk Meadow is near the campground, providing excellent opportunities for bird and wildlife watching. Numerous lakes and streams, including the Salmon River, Stanley Lake, and Redfish Lake, are nearby and offer outstanding rainbow and native Westslope cutthroat trout fishing, along with boating, water skiing, canoeing, and kayaking opportunities.
