About

Thatcher Campground is a small, peaceful campground located just off Highway 21, tucked back into the trees with views overlooking the beautiful Capehorn meadows. This 5-site campground offers a quiet retreat for campers seeking wildlife viewing opportunities and scenic beauty in the Salmon-Challis National Forest. The campground's proximity to marshy wetlands across the highway makes it an excellent spot for viewing moose, elk, and various bird species, particularly in the early morning hours. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring with cooking grill. The campground can accommodate trailers and motorhomes up to 32 feet, though there are no hookups available. Vault toilets are provided on-site. Thatcher Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Located approximately 15 miles northwest of Stanley on Highway 21, it serves as a convenient base for exploring the surrounding national forest and provides easy access to the scenic Highway 21 corridor. The campground typically operates from late spring through early fall, with seasonal closures during winter months due to snow.
