About

Trail River Campground is set in a stunning location between the Trail River and Kenai Lake, offering spectacular lake, river, and snow-capped mountain scenery amid the hemlock and spruce forests of Chugach National Forest on the eastern Kenai Peninsula. The campground is divided into three distinct loops: Spruce Wood Loop provides ample shade and stellar mountain views; Eagle Point Loop overlooks Kenai Lake; and River Terrace Loop sits nearest to the river. A large group campsite accommodates up to 70 guests and features a timber-frame pavilion, volleyball court, horseshoe pit, and playground. The campground provides excellent access to recreation opportunities. Kenai Lake is home to Dolly Varden, rainbow trout, and lake trout, with productive fishing available from the beach. Within a one-mile radius are five trails including Falls Creek Trail, Crown Point Mine Road, Ptarmigan Creek Trail, and Vagt Lake Trail, all providing access to the Iditarod National Historic Trail. The Falls Creek OHV Trail offers views of Kenai and Lower Trail Lakes for hikers and experienced OHV enthusiasts. Nearby Ptarmigan Creek features a fish-viewing platform for observing spawning salmon in late summer and fall. The campground is located 24 miles north of Seward and 40 miles east of Cooper Landing, within easy reach of world-class destinations including Kenai Fjords National Park and the Kenai River. Moose, brown bears, black bears, sheep, and mountain goats inhabit the area. During winter months when the campground is closed for camping, the entrance road and loops are groomed for freestyle and Nordic skiing.
