About

Primrose Campground is a small, intimate campground located on the scenic shores of Kenai Lake in the Chugach National Forest on the Kenai Peninsula. With only 8 campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis, this campground offers a peaceful setting surrounded by spruce forest with mountain views. The campground is positioned near the Primrose Trailhead, providing direct access to the 7.5-mile Primrose Trail, part of the Iditarod National Historic Trail system. The trail offers moderate to difficult hiking with impressive elevation gains and connects to Lost Lake. The campground features basic amenities including vault toilets, potable water, picnic tables, fire pits, and bear-proof dumpsters. A boat launch provides access to Kenai Lake for fishing and boating activities. Late summer visitors can observe salmon runs in nearby Primrose Creek, which attracts wildlife including bears, moose, and various bird species. The location is approximately 1.5 hours south of Anchorage and 30 minutes north of Seward on the Seward Highway. This campground is best suited for tent camping and smaller RVs, as it has no hookups and limited space. Payment can be made on-site, potentially via the Recreation.gov mobile app's Scan and Pay feature where cellular service allows, though coverage may be limited in this remote area.
