About
Trail Creek Campground is a small, well-shaded campground situated along the East Fork of the South Fork Salmon River in the Klamath National Forest. At approximately 5,000 feet elevation, the campground provides a peaceful basecamp for exploring the surrounding wilderness areas. Access is via Forest Road 39N08, off paved County Road 1C02 (Callahan-Cecilville Road), about 14 miles from the town of Callahan. The campground has 12 sites and basic amenities including vault toilets. While water faucets are present, they may not always be operational. Campers should be prepared to pack out all trash as garbage services are not provided. The maximum stay is 14 days. The location serves as an excellent gateway to the Trinity Alps and Russian Wildernesses. Fish Lake Trailhead, located just south of the campground on the Forest Service road, provides access to trails heading south along Fish Lake Creek to Fish Lake and deeper into the Trinity Alps Wilderness, offering outstanding backcountry hiking and fishing opportunities.
Directions
From Callahan, take the Callahan-Cecilville Road (County Road 1C02) for approximately 14 miles. Turn onto Forest Road 39N08 to reach the campground.
