About

Hidden Horse Equestrian Campground sits at 5,800 feet elevation at the southern edge of Klamath National Forest on the South Fork of the Salmon River. This specialized facility caters exclusively to equestrian campers, offering six sites total, with only site #6 available for advance reservation through Recreation.gov. The remaining five sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Each campsite is equipped with four iron corral stalls measuring 12'x12', a picnic table, and parking for one horse trailer. Campers must bring their own buckets for watering horses, as there are no water troughs in the corrals. The partially shaded campground provides vault toilets and potable water from faucets. One site is designed to be ADA accessible. The campground's location makes it an ideal base for exploring the surrounding wilderness areas. From Hidden Horse, riders can access three trailheads leading to the Trinity Alps Wilderness, Russian Wilderness, and the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, offering countless miles of trails and access to several wilderness lakes. The surrounding Klamath National Forest encompasses nearly 2 million acres straddling the California-Oregon border, with elevations ranging from 450 to 8,900 feet and diverse plant and animal life.

Directions

From Callahan, take Callahan-Cecilville Road west for approximately 11 miles. About a half mile below the summit, the campground turnoff is on your left. Hidden Horse is less than 2 miles down the road.
