About
Big Flat Campground sits at approximately 5,000 feet elevation on Coffee Creek Road in the Klamath National Forest, serving as a gateway to the Trinity Alps Wilderness. The campground offers 9 first-come, first-served campsites with picnic tables and vault toilets. No potable water or garbage service is provided; campers must filter or boil water from the nearby creek and pack out all trash. The campground is a popular basecamp for backpackers and equestrians accessing wilderness trails, including the Caribou Lakes Trail. A small corral is available for horse camping. Due to the high elevation, the campground is typically accessible only after snowmelt, generally from June through October. The remote location requires an approximately 18-mile drive on Coffee Creek Road from Highway 3. This primitive campground attracts visitors seeking solitude and wilderness access. Maximum RV length is 24 feet, though the remote access road and lack of amenities make it less suitable for large RVs. The 14-day stay limit applies.
Directions
From I-5, take the South Yreka exit. Go south on Highway 3 for 63 miles to Coffee Creek Guard Station. Turn right onto Coffee Creek Road and continue approximately 18 miles to the campground.
