Toquima Cave Campground

Open

Open for the 2026 season. The campground operates mid-May through late October as weather and conditions allow. First-come, first-served only with no reservations. No potable water is available on-site.

About

Toquima Cave Campground sits at 7,900 feet in the remote Toquima Range of central Nevada, managed by the Austin-Tonopah Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. This free, primitive campground offers vault toilets and picnic tables but no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. The campground's primary draw is Toquima Cave, accessible via a half-mile trail that begins in the campground. Stone steps lead up to a rock shelter site containing remarkable pictographs painted by ancient Shoshones in red, yellow, black, and white pigments. Archaeological finds including projectile points date this site to approximately 600-1300 CE. Nearby on BLM land is Spencers Hot Springs, featuring 192-degree water with a developed tub and below-ground soaking pool. The campground operates seasonally from mid-May through late October depending on weather and road conditions.

Directions
