About

Columbine Campground is a small, rustic facility situated at 8,600 feet elevation along Stewart Creek on the west side of the Toiyabe Range. The campground features 7 campsites in an open setting, including tent-only sites and sites suitable for RVs and trailers up to 35 feet. Located approximately 54 miles south of Austin via US 50, State Route 722, Route 21, and Forest Service Road 119, this remote campground offers solitude and access to some of Nevada's most spectacular high country. The campground's primary draw is its location adjacent to the Columbine Trailhead, which provides direct access to the Arc Dome Wilderness and the Toiyabe Crest National Recreation Trail. Hikers can access the trail to Arc Dome, one of Nevada's 10 tallest peaks at 11,775 feet, through aspen groves and open sage terrain. Equestrians will appreciate the stock loading ramp and access to over 70 miles of trail along the Toiyabe Mountain Range ridge, with 30 miles traversing the Arc Dome Wilderness. This campground operates first-come, first-served with no reservation system or camping fees. Campers must bring their own water as none is available on-site. Vault toilets are provided. Dogs must be kept on leash, and certified weed-free hay is required for stock animals. The remote location and lack of services make this an ideal destination for experienced campers seeking a true backcountry basecamp experience.

Directions

Follow US 50 one mile west of Austin to State Route 722. Turn left, continue on NV-722 for 7 miles to Route 21's junction, and turn left. Take Route 21 to the Yomba Indian Reservation, and turn left onto Forest Service Road 119 for 10 miles.
