Columbine Campground

Open

Open seasonally mid-May through late October, weather and road conditions permitting. First-come, first-served with no reservations required. No fees. No potable water available on site.

About

Columbine Campground sits at 8,600 feet in the remote Toiyabe Range west of Austin, Nevada. This small 7-site primitive campground occupies an open setting along Stewart Creek and serves as the primary staging area for backpackers and equestrians accessing the Arc Dome Wilderness. The Stewart Creek Trailhead provides direct entry into the 120,551-acre wilderness and connects to the Toiyabe Crest National Recreation Trail. Facilities are minimal but functional: vault toilets, picnic tables, and a stock loading ramp for horse trailers. There is no potable water, so campers must bring all drinking water. No fees are charged. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leash, and equestrians must use certified weed-free hay. The campground typically opens mid-May and closes in late October, depending on weather and road conditions. Access is via Forest Service Road 119 from the Yomba Indian Reservation, which can be rough and may require high clearance.
