About

Big Creek Campground sits on the west side of the Toiyabe Range, approximately 12 miles southwest of Austin, Nevada. The 8-site campground occupies a scenic location at the mouth of Kingston Canyon where Big Creek flows directly through the camping area. Mature water birch, cottonwood, and Russian olive trees provide shade and a pleasant riparian setting. The campground serves as a gateway to Kingston Canyon and Groves Lake, making it popular with hikers, anglers, and those seeking a quiet mountain retreat. Sites are fairly open with picnic tables and vault toilets available. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. No fees are charged. Access requires a high-clearance vehicle due to road conditions on Forest Service Road 002. Trailers are prohibited from crossing the top of FSR 002, limiting trailer access. Dogs are permitted but must remain leashed, and certified weed-free hay is required if bringing horses or pack animals.

Directions

From Austin, take US 50 West. Approximately one mile from Austin, take the Big Creek Campground turnoff. Continue south for 11 miles on Forest Service Road 002. High-clearance vehicle recommended.
