Bob Scott Campground is a well-used Forest Service campground positioned along Historic U.S. Highway 50, approximately six miles east of Austin, Nevada, at Bob Scott Summit. Set in an open landscape dotted with pinyon-juniper forest, the campground serves as a convenient stopover for travelers exploring the Loneliest Road in America and a base camp for hunters pursuing deer and elk during hunting season. The campground's location provides access to various recreational opportunities including mountain biking, road cycling, day hiking, and backpacking. Anglers can fish Birch Creek, located about 8 miles from the campground. The area experiences heavy use, particularly during peak travel and hunting seasons. Recently renovated to modernize facilities and improve accessibility, Bob Scott Campground operates seasonally with typical operations from mid-May through late October, depending on weather and snow conditions. Gas and provisions are available in the nearby town of Austin, about 6-7 miles west of the campground.
