About
Tongue River Reservoir State Park is located among the rolling prairie hills of southeastern Montana, 6 miles north of Decker on Secondary 314. This 642-acre park at 3,468 feet elevation surrounds a 12-mile reservoir known for producing state record fish. The park offers 164 total campsites distributed across six campgrounds including Pee Wee North, Campers Point, Rattlesnake, and Sand Point. Of these, 95 sites are reservable during peak season, with 81 electric sites featuring 50 amp, 30 amp, and 120-volt outlets. The remaining 69 sites operate as first-come, first-served year-round. The reservoir excels for crappie, walleye, bass, and northern pike fishing, while fly fishermen can test their skills on the river below the dam. Two boat ramps with docks provide lake access, and a marina store at Campers Point offers boat rentals, supplies, firewood, groceries, fishing licenses, and fuel. Day use areas at Campers Point and Sand Point include sheltered picnic tables, with Sand Point featuring a popular swimming beach. Wildlife viewing opportunities include osprey, blue herons, deer, antelope, and bald eagles. The park remains open year-round with 11 electric sites available during winter months for ice fishing enthusiasts.
