About

Cow Creek Campground and Picnic Area is a quiet, primitive campground tucked into the Ashland Ranger District of Custer Gallatin National Forest in southeastern Montana. With just 5 campsites and a single picnic area, it offers a secluded experience for campers seeking solitude in the Powder River country. The campground is free to use and operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a maximum 10-day stay limit. Facilities are basic but functional, with accessible toilets and picnic tables available. Campers should come prepared as there is no potable water on site and no trash pickup service. Firewood is also not provided. The area offers opportunities for picnicking and pond/lake fishing. The campground is located approximately 25 miles south of Ashland, Montana, accessed via Otter Creek Road and Cow Creek Road. During summer weekends and holidays, the small campground can fill up quickly, so arriving in the early afternoon is recommended to secure a site.

Directions
