About
Tompkins Bend Day-Use Area sits on the shores of Lake Ouachita in central Arkansas, surrounded by the Ouachita Mountains and National Forest. The crystal-clear lake spans over 40,000 acres and extends for 30 miles, making it the largest lake entirely within Arkansas. This day-use facility is designed for group gatherings and day trips rather than overnight stays.
The pavilion offers electrical hookups, picnic tables, and lighting, making it suitable for family reunions, group retreats, and gatherings of up to 125 people. Additional amenities include a bathroom facility and playground. The location provides access to Lake Ouachita's recreational opportunities including water skiing, jet skiing, and fishing.
The site sits along the Lake Ouachita Vista Trail (LOViT), which meanders across the south end of the lake. Wildlife in the surrounding forested mountains includes bobcats, black bears, deer, and bald eagles (often spotted in winter). Hot Springs National Park and the Wolf Pen Gap Off-Highway Vehicle Trail System are nearby attractions.
