About

Hickory Nut Mountain Picnic Area sits near the summit of Hickory Nut Mountain in Montgomery County, Arkansas, within the Ouachita National Forest. The site provides stunning panoramic views of Lake Ouachita and the surrounding Ouachita Mountains, with picnic tables strategically positioned to take advantage of the vistas. The day-use area is equipped with picnic tables, charcoal grills, fire rings, and vault toilets. No potable water is available, so visitors must bring their own. There are no fees to use this facility. The area also serves as a trailhead for the Lake Ouachita Vista Trail (LOViT). This is strictly a day-use facility. Per Ouachita National Forest Order OA-ONF-02-2024, camping is prohibited and visitors may not be in the area before sunrise or after sundown. Those seeking overnight camping should look elsewhere in the Ouachita National Forest.
