Tishomingo State Park Campground

Open — Open year-round. Developed RV sites can be reserved up to 12 months in advance; primitive sites are first-come, first-served.

About

Tishomingo State Park Campground occupies a unique landscape in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Tishomingo County, Mississippi. The campground is nestled in a wooded setting that wraps around Haynes Lake, providing direct lake access from each developed site. The park takes its name from Chief Tishomingo, leader of the Chickasaw nation, and archaeological evidence confirms human presence in the area dating back to 7000 B.C. The developed campground offers 61 paved RV sites, divided into standard sites (1-37) with water and electric hookups, and premium sites (38-61) with full hookups including 50/30/20-amp service, water, and sewer connections. All sites feature picnic tables and grills. Two bathhouses with flush toilets and hot showers serve the campground, along with a central RV dump station and coin laundry facilities. Fourteen primitive campsites are also available on a first-come, first-served basis, each with a picnic table, grill, and fire ring. The park's defining feature is its massive sandstone rock formations and fern-filled crevices, found nowhere else in Mississippi. These colorful outcroppings create a dramatic backdrop for approximately 13 miles of hiking trails ranging from easy to moderate difficulty. The historic Swinging Bridge, a suspended footbridge built by Civilian Conservation Corps workers in 1938, crosses Bear Creek and remains one of the park's most iconic features. Additional activities include fishing in Haynes Lake and Bear Creek, a seasonal 6.25-mile canoe float trip, three disc golf courses, rock climbing by permit, swimming pool, and playgrounds. The famous Natchez Trace Parkway runs directly through the park at Mile Marker 304.

Directions

From Natchez Trace Parkway, exit at Mile Marker 304. Travel on Trace Access Road approximately 0.5 miles. Turn right onto State Park Road (County Road 90) and continue straight to the gatehouse.
