About

Timber Creek Campground is located high in Duck Creek Basin on the Schell Creek Range in eastern Nevada at an elevation of 8,500 feet. The campground is situated in a dense forest of Engelmann spruce, aspen, and white fir trees, providing partial shade and beautiful fall colors. Timber Creek, a perennial stream, flows past the campground and offers rainbow and brook trout fishing opportunities. The campground features 18 campsites including five group sites (serving groups of 25-100 people), six RV sites, and seven equestrian sites with corrals. All sites include picnic tables, campfire rings, and BBQ pedestals. The High Schells Wilderness, with multiple peaks exceeding 11,000 feet, sits immediately adjacent to the campground with a trailhead located half a mile up the road. The Ranger OHV Trail system is accessible below the campground, offering extensive opportunities for off-highway vehicles, horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking. The 30-mile Success Loop Scenic Drive traverses Duck Creek Basin, providing sweeping views of the surrounding high desert and mountain terrain. Winter recreation includes cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Nearby attractions include Ward Charcoal Ovens State Park, the Northern Nevada Railway Museum in Ely, and Cave Lake State Park. This is a pack-in, pack-out facility with no trash collection service. Access requires traveling 3 miles on Forest Road 425, a dirt road.

Directions

From Ely, take US 93 north and drive 5 miles past McGill. Turn on State Route 486 and continue 8 miles on the paved road. Turn left on Forest Road 425 at the Timber Creek sign and drive 3 miles up the dirt road to the campground.
