Cave Lake State Park Elk Flat Campground

Closed — Closed for the season from November 1st through early May, weather permitting. The campground typically reopens in early May and operates through mid-October. Lake View Campground remains open year-round for winter camping.

Winds gusting as high as 45 mph causing areas of blowing and drifting snow. * WHERE...Portions of eastern, northeast, and south central Nevada. * WHEN...From 4 PM Monday to 10 PM PST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. Strong winds could cause tree damage and reduce visibility to one mile or less in blowing snow.

* WHAT...Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected. * WHERE...White Pine, Southern Lander and Southern Eureka, Northeastern Nye, and Northwestern Nye Counties. * WHEN...From 8 AM Monday to 10 PM PST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Patchy blowing dust will reduce visibility to one mile or less in spots. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds will diminish Monday night to below advisory thresholds but are expected to strengthen during the early morning hours on Tuesday.

Elk Flat Campground is the first camping area visitors encounter when approaching Cave Lake State Park from Highways 93, 50, and 6. Located at 7,300 feet elevation in the Schell Creek Range adjacent to Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, the campground offers 18 level campsites suitable for both tents and RVs. Each site includes a fire pit with grill, picnic table, and parking space. The campground provides modern amenities including flush toilets and hot showers during the operating season. Potable water is available throughout the campground, and an RV dump station is located nearby. Access roads to campsites are unpaved. The park offers excellent opportunities for trout fishing in the 32-acre reservoir, hiking on four developed trails, and wildlife viewing including elk, mule deer, and various bird species. The camping limit is seven days within any 30-day period. Pets are permitted on leashes no longer than six feet. Gathering firewood is prohibited. Day use entrance fees are $5 for Nevada vehicles and $10 for non-Nevada vehicles. Camping fees are $15 per night for Nevada vehicles and $20 per night for non-Nevada vehicles.

Directions

From US Highway 93/50/6, take Success Summit Road east approximately 7 miles to Cave Lake State Park. Elk Flat Campground is the first campground encountered when entering from the highway.
