About

Elk Flat Campground is one of two designated campgrounds at Cave Lake State Park, located about 15 miles southeast of Ely in eastern Nevada's Schell Creek Range. At 7,300 feet elevation, the campground provides relief from desert heat and access to a pristine 32-acre reservoir stocked with rainbow and brown trout. All campsites are level with unpaved access roads, and each includes a fire pit with grill and picnic table. The park offers excellent year-round fishing opportunities, with ice fishing popular during winter months when the campground is closed. Hiking trails wind through the surrounding pinyon-juniper forest, where wildlife sightings of mule deer, wild turkeys, and various raptors are common. The lake permits non-motorized boats and boats with electric motors, making it ideal for kayaking and canoeing. A group camping area is also available for larger parties. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis for individual sites, though group reservations can be made through Reserve Nevada. Campers are limited to seven consecutive nights within any 30-day period.

Directions

From Ely, take US-93 south for approximately 7 miles. Turn left onto Success Summit Road (State Route 486) and continue east for about 8 miles to the park entrance.
