Cave Lake State Park Group Use Areas provide designated group camping sites within two campgrounds at this year-round recreation destination in the Schell Creek Range. The park sits at 7,300 feet elevation, five miles southeast of Ely, Nevada, adjacent to Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Each campground—Elk Flat and Lake View—includes one group camping site that can be reserved through the park rangers office. The 32-acre Cave Lake reservoir is the centerpiece of the park, stocked with rainbow trout and home to German brown trout. The lake allows motorized boats at 5 mph or less. Summer activities include fishing, boating, swimming, hiking on four maintained trails, and mountain biking. Winter transforms the park into a snow recreation area with ice fishing, skating on the boat launch area, snowmobiling on approved roads, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Group campsites are level and include fire pits with grills, picnic tables, and parking. Access roads to campsites are unpaved. The camping limit is seven days in a 30-day period. Wildlife is abundant, with elk, mule deer, bobcats, mountain lions, hawks, and eagles frequently spotted in the area.
