About

Tie Hack Campground is situated in a dense stand of lodgepole pine at 7,800 feet elevation, just off the scenic Cloud Peak Skyway on the east side of the Bighorn Mountains. The campground sits near the shore of Tie Hack Reservoir, where rock outcroppings line the water and anglers cast for rainbow, cutthroat, brown, and brook trout. Only electric motors are permitted on the reservoir, making it ideal for canoeing and quiet fishing. A short trail leads from the campground to the lake, while the Circle Park Trailhead lies 3 miles away, providing access to numerous alpine lakes and two 12,000-foot peaks within the Cloud Peak Wilderness. Additional hiking opportunities abound throughout the area. Scenic off-road driving, hiking, and mountain biking are available on nearby Elgin Park, Pole Creek, and Crazy Woman Canyon Roads. South Fork Lodge is nearby, offering dining, lodging, guided horseback riding, and a small store with fishing and camping supplies.

Directions

From Buffalo, Wyoming, take US Highway 16 west for about 13.4 miles to Forest System Road 21. Turn left and go 0.5 miles to the campground sign.
