The campground is closed for the season. Opens Memorial Day weekend (May 25, 2026) through Labor Day, weather dependent. Reservations can be made through Recreation.gov at least 3 days in advance.

About
Lost Cabin Campground is located 29 miles west of Buffalo, Wyoming at 8,200 feet elevation on the east side of the Cloud Peak Skyway (US Highway 16). The campground occupies a hillside draped in dense lodgepole pine forest with North Fork Creek flowing nearby. A short trail leads from the campground down to the creek. The 19 sites include 18 standard single-family sites and one double site (Site 7). Each site has a picnic table and fire ring with grill. Accessible vault toilets and potable drinking water from a hand pump are provided. Trash collection is available during the season. The nearest dump station is 12 miles away at Powder River Pass. Recreation options abound in the area. Scenic off-road driving on Elgin Park, Pole Creek, and Crazy Woman Canyon Roads attracts hikers and mountain bikers. Cloud Peak Wilderness trails are accessible nearby. Meadowlark Lake (20 minutes west) and Tie Hack Reservoir (20 minutes north) offer fishing and paddling. High Park Lookout, a historic CCC-era fire tower near Meadowlark Lake, rewards hikers with panoramic views.

From Buffalo, WY, take Highway 16 west approximately 25 miles to the campground sign. Turn right and continue 0.3 miles to the campground.
