About
South Fork Campground is situated along the banks of South Fork Clear Creek at 7,800 feet elevation, nestled in a dense lodgepole pine forest on the east side of the scenic Cloud Peak Skyway. Located 15 miles west of Buffalo, Wyoming, the campground provides convenient access to the Cloud Peak Wilderness Area and numerous recreational opportunities throughout Bighorn National Forest. The campground features 15 sites, with sites 1-10 being drive-in sites with spurs measuring 25-40 feet, and sites 11-15 designated as walk-in tent-only sites. Each site includes a picnic table and campfire ring with grill. Nearby Tie Hack Reservoir offers excellent fishing for rainbow, cutthroat, brown, and brook trout, as well as canoeing opportunities. The Circle Park Trailhead, located just 3 miles from the campground, provides access to numerous alpine lakes and two 12,000-foot peaks within the Cloud Peak Wilderness. Additional recreation includes scenic off-road driving, hiking, and mountain biking at Elgin Park, Pole Creek, and Crazy Woman Canyon Roads. South Fork Lodge, located directly across Highway 16 from the campground, offers dining options, lodging, guided horseback riding, a fishing pond, and a small store with fishing and camping supplies. The high elevation means cold nights even during summer months.
