About

Hunter Campground sits high in the Bighorn Mountains of northern Wyoming at 7,800 feet elevation, surrounded by dense lodgepole pine forest. Built with equestrian campers in mind, the campground provides individual livestock corrals, hitching rails, and an accessible mounting ramp at each of its 11 sites. Nine sites are reservable through Recreation.gov, one is used by the camp host during peak season, and two remain first-come, first-served. The campground serves as a primary staging area for trails into the Cloud Peak Wilderness and the Rock Creek Recommended Wilderness Area. Each site features a 20x20-foot hardened pad with a picnic table, utility table, and fire ring. Vault toilets and potable water are available when the campground is staffed. Outside the operating season, self-supported camping is permitted as weather allows, but water, trash collection, and cleaning services are not provided. Tie Hack Reservoir is a 15-minute drive southeast, offering canoeing and fishing for rainbow, cutthroat, brown, and brook trout. All hay brought to the campground must be certified weed-free. The maximum stay is 14 consecutive nights.
