About
Tiadaghton State Forest spans 146,539 acres across Lycoming, Tioga, Potter, Clinton, and Union Counties in Pennsylvania's Wilds region. Named for a Native American term describing Pine Creek, the forest features high-country flats cut by clean, fast-moving mountain streams including the renowned Pine Creek and Slate Run. The forest is managed as a working landscape balancing recreation, sustainable timber harvest, and ecological conservation under dual FSC and SFI certification. The 87 campsites are divided into four categories. Roadside sites (33) are remote pulloffs along dirt and gravel forest roads that accommodate tents, small RVs, or trailers. Roadside hike-in sites (9) are tent-only with designated parking and a short trail walk. State forest rustic campgrounds at Black Walnut Bottom and Tomb Flats (32 sites total) offer a campground setting in Pine Creek's floodplain with vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables. Trailside sites (13), including Bonnell Flats, require access by foot, bike, or boat. Reservations for motorized and roadside campsites are made through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system up to 11 months in advance. Primitive backpack camping elsewhere in the forest requires no permit for single-night stays except within Natural Areas or restricted buffer zones. Campfires are prohibited March 1 through May 25 without district forester authorization.
