Thornhill Broome Campground offers a unique primitive beach camping experience in the far western Santa Monica Mountains at Point Mugu State Park. Located directly on the Pacific Ocean along Highway 1, campsites sit between the road and the beach, providing immediate access to sandy shores and rocky bluffs. The park encompasses five miles of ocean shoreline along with rugged hills, sand dunes, and two major river canyons. Facilities include restrooms with token-operated showers (accepting only $1 bills), fire rings for campfires when conditions permit, and an RV dump station. The campground accommodates tents and RVs up to 31 feet total combined length with a maximum trailer height of 13'6". Dogs are permitted in the campground on leash but not on trails. Due to its beachfront location, the campground is subject to flooding from high tides and tidal surges. Campers should check current conditions upon arrival. Reservations are available through ReserveCalifornia, with same-day reservations accepted. A 7-day stay limit applies from March 1 through November 30.

Directions

From Oxnard, take Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1) south approximately 15 miles. The campground is located along Highway 1 within Point Mugu State Park. From Los Angeles, take Pacific Coast Highway north through Malibu.
