* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents and breaking waves with elevated surf expected. Minor coastal flooding possible. * WHERE...San Luis Obispo County Beaches, Santa Barbara County Central Coast Beaches, Santa Barbara County Southwestern Coast, Santa Barbara County Southeastern Coast, Ventura County Beaches, Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches. * WHEN...Through Wednesday evening. * IMPACTS...There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Southerly swell combined with abnormally high tides of 7.0 to 7.6 feet will bring the potential for minor coastal flooding in low-lying areas each evening.
Temporary Closure of Main Entrance at Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa
Starting August 25, the main entrance to Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa will be closed for gate installation, but the area and hiking trails remain open with alternative parking at Wendy Trailhead. Entrance will reopen on August 28.
About
Sycamore Canyon Campground is the primary camping area within Point Mugu State Park, located along Pacific Coast Highway approximately 4 miles west of the Ventura County line. The campground occupies a scenic canyon lined with native sycamore trees, providing shade and shelter while sitting just a short walk from the sandy beach at Sycamore Cove. The park encompasses over 14,000 acres of diverse terrain including five miles of ocean shoreline with rocky bluffs, sand dunes, rugged hills, and wide grassy valleys dotted with sycamores, oaks, and native walnuts. More than 70 miles of hiking trails wind through the park, offering routes ranging from easy canyon walks to strenuous ridge climbs with panoramic ocean views. Seasonal whale watching is possible in late winter and spring. Each campsite includes a fire ring and picnic table. The campground features combination restroom/shower buildings with token-operated showers that accept one dollar bills. An RV dump station is available on site. Two ADA-accessible campsites are located at sites 36 and 58. Campground gates open at 8am and close at 10pm with no entry permitted after closing. Quiet hours are enforced from 10pm to 6am.
Directions
Located on Pacific Coast Highway approximately 4 miles west of the Ventura County line. The campground entrance is on the inland side of PCH at 9000 West Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA 90265.
