Closed — Closed for the season due to snow. Typically opens after July 4th and operates through October. The drinking water system is not currently operational; contact the Minidoka District Office at (208) 678-0430 for updates on water availability.

About

Thompson Flat Campground is situated at 8,400 feet elevation in a beautiful wildflower-filled meadow on the eastern slope of Mount Harrison in the Albion Mountain Range. The campground features tall pine and fir trees and offers stunning alpine scenery in southern Idaho's Sawtooth National Forest. The campground includes 25 individual campsites (8 reservable units including 4 singles and 4 doubles, plus 17 first-come, first-served sites) and 3 group sites accommodating 40 to 64 people. All sites feature large picnic tables and campfire rings with grills. The Twin Lakes area across the road offers picnic areas, horse corrals, and trailhead access. Lake Cleveland is just two miles away, providing fishing, canoeing, and additional trail opportunities. Visitors enjoy abundant recreation including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and OHV trails throughout the area. The Mount Harrison Lookout offers panoramic valley views, and Pomerelle Ski Area below the campground provides summer lift-served hiking and mountain biking on weekends. The area is known for its scenic beauty, wildflowers, and access to alpine lakes throughout the Albion Division of the Sawtooth National Forest.

Directions

From Interstate 84, take exit 216 and follow State Highway 77 south for approximately 18 miles through Declo and Albion to Howell Canyon Road. Turn west at the Pomerelle Ski Area sign and drive 7 miles up the steep, winding canyon on Howell Canyon Road. Watch for the campground entrance sign on the right.

Thompson Flats features many large loops that provide multiple camping spots for large groups. Each loop also features a large recreation area that makes meals and bonfires easy.
